Get to Know your CTE Staff Julie West Tell us about yourself I have worked in the Athena-Weston School District since 2005, teaching Art, Graphic Design and Pottery. I have a B.S. in Fine Art with a minor in Psychology. Art has always been a part of my life and has opened doors in many different fields of employment. My post-grad studies include Art Education and ELL. Why is CTE important for students and WMHS? CTE is important because the programs provide hands-on opportunities for practical learning in many different careers. Students experience real-life skills that enhance their future endeavors and better prepare them for life after high school. What do you love most about what you teach? What I love about Fine Art is that it teaches students how to communicate visually in addition to other studies. They learn to make complex ideas understandable using the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to turn abstract ideas into concrete visuals. Expressing ideas through various media is also cathartic and soothing. What classes do you teach?
